We believe that each student should have the opportunity and support to thrive in the classroom. At the K-8 campuses of Calvin Christian, the Challenge Program helps meet the learning needs of students who are able to benefit from opportunities that extend beyond the regular curriculum.
In addition to supporting classroom teachers in enhancing learning for all students, our Challenge Program specialists provide smaller group instruction designed to meet the academic needs of students who demonstrate mastery of the regular curriculum in core subjects such as reading and math. The Challenge Program also offers focused study groups that build on the special interests, talents, or learning styles of students.
The Challenge Program helps students develop skills as independent learners and leaders, allows for creativity and higher order thinking, and nurtures self-understanding. While allowing students to interact with intellectual peers, it encourages them to serve others in a learning community and helps them explore the role each of us plays as an integral member of the body of Christ.
Our motivation for the Challenge Program comes from 1 Corinthians 12:4-6: “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one.” By encouraging and stretching students to explore their unique God-given gifts and interests, each student can learn how he or she is called to help bring forth the kingdom of God.
