When we began our search last fall for CCS’s next President, we had a tall order. We had very big shoes to fill with Randy Kroll’s decision to step down. We knew we needed another President who would be a visionary leader and a culture builder. We wanted someone who could nurture an organization, build relationships and maintain CCS’s reputation for academic excellence. We wanted someone who could be the face of CCS to the broader community, and who could think strategically with the Board about the future of CCS. And we wanted all that plus a deep personal faith, a background in Christian education and a commitment to CCS’s distinctive mission and vision.
We tackled that task deliberately. We established a search committee with strong representatives from our faculty, supporting churches, the Board and the CCS community. We sought input from our principals and faculty, and from the entire CCS community through an online survey and town hall meetings. We developed a comprehensive Opportunity Profile for our next leader based on that input. We conducted a nationwide search looking for the candidate that God had prepared for us. And we all prayed.
As tends to be the case when you work hard and trust in God’s pl
an, He has blessed us by providing a person who has everything we hoped to find in our next leader. We are excited to announce that Dr. Bethany Schuttinga will be the next President of Calvin Christian School.
Dr. Schuttinga (SKUTT-ing-gah, although she prefers Bethany!), received her B.A. from Dordt College, a master’s from Minnesota State University in Mankato, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University. She brings to CCS a 17-year career in education, having served in administrative leadership positions at Dordt College and Iowa State before her most recent role building a platform for Christian education in Indonesia. In her conversations with the search committee and the Board, Bethany impressed everyone with her passion and her strategic insights into Christian education. She communicates effortlessly and naturally inspires confidence. She is dedicated to the CCS mission and vision, and our historical commitment to academic excellence. She shares the CCS commitment to integrating faith and learning for every CCS student. We believe that Bethany is exactly the person we need to lead CCS to make an even greater Kingdom impact in the coming years!
Bethany will start as CCS’s President on a fulltime basis on July 1, 2017. Before that, she will work closely with Randy to ensure a smooth transition, and she will spend time meeting with members of the CCS community. We hope everyone will have an opportunity in the coming months to get to know Bethany and her family, and welcome her to the CCS community.
As a Board, we are honored to work shoulder to shoulder with the incredible community of parents, teachers and supporters that are Calvin Christian School. Thank you for your insight, support and prayer over the last several months. We are excited to see what God has in store for CCS!
